Defend policy

We have heard very little or nothing from the various political parties concerning defence.

According to a recent BBC programme, Russia today is more dangerous than five years ago. What are the various parties proposing to spend on defence?

In particular, is the Scottish National Party happy that an independent Scotland could not defend itself? Are they relying on Nato for protection despite the fact that Britain provides almost half of the power of Nato and they want to be independent of Britain?

I am proud to be Scots and proud to be British. I welcome home rule, which we have for Scotland, but believe independence would be a disaster. DAVID W TORRANCE
