#BONGFORBREXIT

Boris Johnson suggested a crowdfunding campaign to raise the £500,000 needed for Big Ben to chime on 31 January to mark Britain’s departure from the EU.

@cottledelia wrote: “Would be delighted to Bung a Bob for Big Ben. Historic moment – story for the grandkids.”

@aev1609 wrote: “Why can’t they contribute to help the many homeless people who can be found within a few hundred yards of Big Ben. It is so upsetting to see them right outside Parliament and nothing done by those inside to help them.”

@iwineulose said: “I’m willing to bung a bob or two for a Big Ben bong just to get the Remoaners throwing their toys (again).”

@pylade2019 tweeted: “Alternatively, the working poor could bang empty pots and pans in foodbanks up and down Tory Britain.”

@esssieeee said: “Millionaire liar asks the poor to pay for the bell that they will ring to mark the start of their spiral into deeper poverty.”

@Brexitbin added: “We don’t need to restore a clapper, we need to restore trust in democracy by publishing the Russia report.”

@delboybvi said: “If we’re looking at costs then we should immediately withdraw the subsidisation of Parliament’s bars. Why on earth would we ever have been doing this in the first place? Apparently it runs to millions.”

#PRITIPATEL

Responding to the inclusion of Extinction Rebellion on a UK terror list, Home Secretary Priti Patel accepted that the environmental protest group was not a terrorist organisation, but added that it was important to look at a range of ‘security risks’.

@Brexitking said: “They’re not just about climate change! Go read their full dossier.”

@emlynshoes said:

“If Priti Patel thinks #Extinctionrebellion are a risk to the public, I have some bad news for her about unabated climate change.”

@mitchmusic said: “All but the insane would say that climate catastrophe is a greater risk to the public than people trying to prevent it.”

@paulagriffin65 said: “I for one am terrified by interpretative dance, alternative theatre and pseudo folk music but I am also terrified by the threat to the environment posed by unchecked industrial development and the growing amounts of toxic waste our planet faces.”
