Cove throw away two-goal lead but extend advantage at top to six points

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Cove Rangers let a two-goal lead slip at Albion Rovers but the point they picked up in the 2-2 draw increased their advantage at the top of the table to six.

The Aberdeen side took the lead on seven minutes when Josh Mulligan’s cross was touched on by Rory Mcallister to Mitch Megginson who shot into the net from six yards.

It was 2-0 on 65 minutes when Jamie Masson curled past Ryan Goodfellow from 25 yards but the Coatbridge hosts hit back with nine minutes left when Euan East drilled into a corner.

Scott Roberts fired in an equaliser five minutes later to leave Balmoral Stadium manager Paul Hartley saying: “It was an uncharacteristic end to the game as we should have seen it out. Even though we have moved further in front I am still disappointed.”

Edinburgh City failed to take advantage of Cove’s late lapses as they went down 1-0 to visitors Stirling Albion with Jordan Mcgregor grabbing the winner with a diving header midway through the second half.

New-look Queen’s Park, who had four players making starting debuts, are in the playoff hunt now after defeating third placed Cowdenbeath 1-0 at Hampden.

One of the new boys, former Partick Thistle midfielder, Craig Slater side-footed home the winner after nine minutes with the visitors going close through Gavin Morrison who shot against a post.

Ryan Blair, Botti Biabi and Callum Moore all scored in the first half as Stenhousemuir

climbed up to eighth with a 3-0 win at Annan.

Bottom side Brechin City

are looking in an ominous position after they went down 2-1 to visitors Elgin.

Debutant Martin Scott had given the Glebe Park men a first-half lead, however Shane Sutherland and Smart Osadolor scored in the last seven minutes to turn the game around.
