Clyde players get lowdown on miracles

- By CRAIG STEWART

The Clyde players will not have far to turn as they look for inspiration ahead of facing Celtic in the Scottish Cup tomorrow as both manager Danny Lennon and his assistant Allan Moore have enjoyed knock-out success against the Glasgow giants.

Lennon’s St Mirren defeated Neil Lennon’s side in a League Cup semi-final in January 2013 and just eight months later Moore guided Morton to a 1-0 success in the same competition on Celtic’s home patch.

Moore said: “This is one of the ties that you enter cup competitions for. Miracles can happen in football and we will use both games to give the players belief that they can do something special. Celtic are in formidable form and the move to having two strikers up front has made them even more dangerous.

“However, very few people gave St Mirren a chance at Hampden and even less people gave Morton a chance at Parkhead. Both clubs won.”

The Greenock club’s success was tinged with huge sadness for Moore as his brother Steven passed away on holiday in Turkey less than 24 hours after the final whistle.

“That win was the greatest achievement of my time as a manager but I was never able to look back at it positively,” Moore said.

“That changed when I had a conversation with my dad shortly before he left us a couple of years ago. He said that beating Celtic was a terrific feat and that I should enjoy it. That helped and if another miracle happens then I will enjoy it.”
