The Scotsman

A nice mess ...

-

A Scotrail conductor had to run after his train after it started to leave Rosyth station without him, The Scotsman has learned. The man was able to leap aboard as the Edinburghbound commuter service left the station.

Not the first time that’s happened and won’t be the last

Steve Saunders Excellent. Was it Laurel? Hardy would not have made it. What a wonderful picture in my head to make me smile. The hobos used to wait in the railyards and jump onto open wagons. They were experts. Definitely this man had seen Sullivan’s Travels with Joel Mcrea and Veronica Lake. Be grateful it was not a bullet train. It is six miles down the track in seconds.

Grumpy But there would have been a good 2-3 minutes of slapstick fun with Stan trying to pull Ollie into the train. I just can’t decide whether it would be better with the music hall piano which accompanied so many of their films or Yakkety Sax.

“The man was able to leap aboard as the Edinburghbound commuter service pulled out of the platform.” This is the first time I have ever heard of a train pulling out of a platform! Another first?

George Porter-mutch Taking 40-year-old trains out of service but still have these old ones with manual doors. Abellio don’t know how to play with Scotland’s train set.

William James Barker Saw something like this years ago when the train stopped to let another pass. Doors opened at the platform to let passengers out to smoke and the trolley attendant went over to pat a pony. He didn’t hear the beeper, the doors closed and the train headed off with him banging on the window. Realised my dream to pull the cord with impunity, though the guard wasn’t too pleased!
