Oriam stages first Super6 indoor match
The first FOSROC Super6 match to be played indoors will take place today when Stirling County face Boroughmuir Bears at the Oriam (2:30pm).
The match has been moved to the Heriot-watt University facility in Edinburgh because County’s Bridgehaugh ground is unplayable.
Scrum-half Sean Kennedy is back fit so starts for Stirling with Andrew Goudie coming in at 10, while Charlie Brown starts at tighthead prop.
“As a one-off match it’s been pretty easy to get the guys motivated ,” County head coach Ben
Cairns said. “I was involved in the first ever indoor Premiership match at Oriam [Currie Chieftains v Heriot’s in March 2018] which was an excellent experience. The conditions will allow both teams to play a really high-tempo and exciting brand of rugby and we’d hope the rugby public will get down to support this event.”
Loosehead prop Michael Downer and second-row Callum Atkinson return to boost the Muir pack.
Bears head coach Graham Shiel said: “Dry and still conditions to play a game in February is a novelty and I hope the squad enjoy the opportunity to express themselves.”
Watsonians have already secured a home semi-final ahead of next month’s title play-offs, but will want to end the regular season on a high against in-form Southern Knights at Myreside (3pm).
Former Scotland under-20 loosehead prop Sam Grahamslaw and exciting young No 8 Harry Fisher make their first starts for the hosts.
The Knights are definitely in the play-offs too and their pack is boosted by the return of Shaun Gunn, Dalton Redpath and Iain Moody.
Tomorrow, the two other play-off bound sides – Heriot’s and Ayrshire Bulls – meet at Goldenacre (2pm) after which the semi-final draw will be confirmed.
