Kudadoo, Maldives
Friday, midday
Check into this island’s only accommodation, Kudadoo Maldives (doubles from £400, www.kudadoo. com), a sumptuous eco-friendly resort – they generate most of their electricity through solar power – that only has 15 overwater bungalows.
1pm
Pop to the Retreat, the overwater leisure complex that is the island’s heart. Fish curry made with wahoo with a view of the Indian Ocean waters it came from is the way to go.
3pm
Book a yoga session at the Retreat or get the instructor to come to give you a personal workout by your pool.
6pm
Cruise off on a sunset boat trip to admire the beauty of Lhaviyani Atoll with its sand kissed islands gleaming all around as the sun melts into the ocean and you search for our marine mammal cousins.
8pm
Ask about the gastronomic menu at the Retreat and tuck into the likes of Wagyu steak spiced with morels and served in Chinese-style pancakes.
Saturday, 9am
Enjoy a ‘floating breakfast’, a novel experience as you chase your breakfast tray around your pool.
10am
Bash off to Naifaru, the capital of Lhaviyani Atoll, which feels totally different. You can shop for the mother of pearl souvenirs that the island is famous for.
Midday
Join the islanders with lunch at a local restaurant – they tend to keep erratic opening hours so check what tempts on the day.
2pm
If you’re an experienced diver ‘The Shipyard’ offers wreck dives that get you up close and personal to nurse sharks and moray eels.
7pm
Enjoy dinner by your pool. Treat yourself to lobster thermidor and a glass of Meursault – impressively this stellar Burgundy white is on the all inclusive wine list.
Sunday, 10am
Massage time with an hour long preflight session at the island spa, or that pedicure or manicure you’ve been promising yourself. ■ Turkish Airlines (www. turkishairlines.com) fly to the Maldives from Edinburgh via Istanbul. Flat beds available in business class for the overnight flights. Lonely Planet’s Maldives guide has more information.
