Lost luggage specialists at Heathrow go on strike

- By ALAN JONES

Workers who locate and repatriate lost baggage at Heathrow Airport are launching a week-long strike in a dispute over pay.

Members of the Unite union employed by Global Baggage Solutions will be on strike from today until midnight on 9 March, with two further eight-day walkouts from 14 March and 26 March.

The union said the workers received no pay rise last year and were being offered an increase of 32p an hour this year.

Unite regional officer Clare Keogh said: “Passengers using Heathrow in March need to be aware that if their luggage disappears it is likely to be trapped in a black hole. Passengers may find the potential that their bags may disappear as distressing, butneedtounderstand this is directly a result of the penny-pinching.”
