Thanks, BBC ...

-

I would like to thank sincerely BBC Radio Scotland for the excellent standard of news programmes they are presenting during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

For most people, the lockdown is very frightening. This can be a devastating experience, particularly for the over-70-year-olds; even more so if they live alone and also for sufferers of underlying health conditions being confined and isolated in their homes unable to see their families and friends or attend social activities and, in some cases, having a care package reduced or even withdrawn completely.

For this group, including myself as a septuagenarian, a responsible, dependable radio station is a much-needed requisite. In my view, BBC Radio Scotland is providing this very adequately. It gives up-to-date news from a Scottish perspective, including full coverage of the First Minister and Prime Minister’s daily conferences.

Particularly helpfully, it allows opportunities for radio listeners to ask questions about the myriad of problems they are facing because of the pandemic and the lockdown and hopefully receive helpful answers from relevant experts.

It saddens and annoys me,

however, that at a time of world crisis, certain Scottish independence activists persist in constantly criticising BBC Scotland and have no shame in continuing to politically pointscore.

I would have thought in these straitened times the Prime Minister would have better things to do than write and send a letter to every household in the country telling us about the virus, never mind the cost of postage which could be better spent on helping to relieve the poverty the virus has caused.

He is also putting postal workers at risk and causing them unnecessary extra work. Most people are fully aware of the situation through other media and have been sent texts by Government offices telling us to stay inside.

I would urge him to think again and invest his energies and resources in a more worthwhile project.
