Hot and bothered

-

Temperature checks are to be introduced at Edinburgh Airport. Departing passengers will be screened.

A bit late to introduce this now, I was in Rome in February and we were scanned with a thermal camera in the arrival hall before clearing immigration, This should have been introduced weeks ago along with a flight ban.

Kevin Connolly Incoming passengers should be tested too – before they leave the arrivals hall. If test is positive, put them in isolation immediately.

Ken Johnston Another waste of time. For so many weeks there was not a problem to welcome people from so many countries and now when everyone decides to slowly come back to normal, Edinburgh Airport is ready for temperature check!

Bit late. Social distancing and a plane full of passengers airborne, close proximity, no testing on entering UK – doesn’t take a scientist or public health official to confirm this should have been a priority.

Reidy Kaz

So if someone is denied boarding, who compensates the passenger for loss of full value of their holiday?

Brian Christie

Why are people travelling? Well implemented lockdowns in other countries have been effective as a temporary measure to curb infection rates. Several countries are now in talks to slowly lift restrictions. Meanwhile we’re just wasting time at home waiting for our economy to collapse.

Erin Humphries

As per usual, very late in the day and a bloody cheek, as they were still accepting flights from high risk countries in April!

Jamie Gordon

I arrived from JFK a few weeks ago., No check, nothing, was out of the airport with luggage in 15 minutes.

Brian Macaulay And yet people can have no symptoms at all yet still be highly infectious. An aircraft cabin will be ideal for rapidly spreading the virus. It’s impossible to practice social distancing on an aircraft due to the cabin air being recirculated.

Paul Burgess We travelled to Malta in early March and were scanned by a thermal camera after passport control. We were also scanned when we were leaving ten days later. On arrival at Newcastle Airport we were waved straight through with no checks whatsoever.

Jackie Porteous Better late than never. Hope this is incoming, as well as outgoing!

Kate Steventon

Wouldn’t fly even if I wore a full hazmat suit.

Donald J Makin

I was tested entering Italy at the beginning of February. Why wasn’t Edinburgh doing the same back then?

Catherine A Mcinally

Overhead a woman yesterday walking along the street talking to a gentleman, saying her flight here yesterday was awful, and felt really unsafe. People arriving here should be made to selfisolate for 14 days.

Kerina Robb My husband is a pilot and he was tested at all his destinations except the UK on his return home! It really should have been done earlier!

Sandra Florence-grime All passengers should be isolated for a week at the airport hotel, then tested. If clear they should then be able to fly and the same procedure on return this is the only way I can see to fly safe.

Derek Philp

Why test as they leave? Does it not make more sense to test as they arrive? If they have it, then they can be isolated.

Mary O’neil Cunningham

Temperature checks are fine, but they are not an accurate indication of someone who might be asymptomatic, but still contagious.

Janet L Brook Only works if every country does it on departure. You have a temperature, you don’t fly!

Gina Mcleod Ridiculous – airports should have been shut down, but incoming passengers should definitely be tested. What good is it to us when people are leaving?

Margo Young It’s little wonder the virus keeps spreading. All flights should have stopped weeks ago.

John Hope

Should have been happening months ago, every other country is way ahead of the UK on this one! Should also have been testing arriving passengers months ago.

Kim Paxton

Why is the UK allowing people to leave and come in? I would love to fly back to the UK for a visit, but no international travel is allowed here, in or out unless they have an exemption and probably none till 2021, so I’m told.
