Love for lockdown

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced there would be at least another three weeks of lockdown.

Another three weeks, or longer if it has to be, then fine. A few months out of our lives is not a lot to ask to save ourselves and family. There are a lot who have ignored the rules, we see it every day, but hopefully it will pass soon. We can only hope.

May Hutchison Well done. My little brother is in a care home and he has Covid-19 and it has to have come into the care home from an outside source. It’s too soon to back off from lockdown and hard decisions have to be made to keep us all safe. Think of the poor families out there who have lost loved ones due to this invisible killer.

Maryjane Brown It’s the right decision. We would all regret it if we rushed this and eased off too early. For all who have lost loved ones and for those who now suffer on their own, we owe them this time to ensure we have done our utmost to reduce a further outbreak soon. For our future we have to stay as one and see this through. Stay safe everyone.

Sean Smith Right decision. She is making the best decision for Scotland and doing a fantastic job. So glad she has done this. We need to be patient, it’s life or death, people have to realise that. I have family members that are high risk, I want them safe. My daughter is a carer, she is on the front line, and what annoys me is people moaning about the lockdown. Well, if you want us to end up with a second wave there would be double the deaths. So look at the bigger picture, this is serious, not a joke.

Gail Paterson It’s not rocket science to understand why she is having to do this. Still too many lives

being lost and people not living by the government guidance. We are all desperate for this to end, but needs must.

Ros Hopkins I will be happy to sit in lockdown for as long as it takes. It’s about keeping your family and others safe, just lift the restriction on buying, selling and moving into a new house. Clean it when you leave and clean it before you move in. A month overdue could make our buyer or the person we are buying from move on and put us back to square one with mortgages.

James Tait As much as I would love to get back to normal I think this is absolutely the right decision. I would rather stick with lockdown for a bit longer than have to lose someone I love because it is lifted too soon.

Lynette Thomson Seems to be mostly rich business owners wanting to get their companies back up and running. Us working class folk are just happy to have our families in the house safe.

Craig Wright Well done Nicola, health before wealth. Saving lives, you’re doing the people of Scotland proud.

Helena Reid I’m self-employed, now unemployed and need to get

back to work, but it’s still far too soon.

Ali Wilson For once I agree with Mrs S. We need to see more of a drop before we start relaxing things. If Boris Johnson does that on Sunday we’ll see another, probably higher, spike in cases and deaths. My main worry is if BJ says relax and back to work, will Mrs S and the Scottish Government take over furloughed workers’ payments in Scotland if Boris stops them?

Shaun Sibthorp It’s the right decision and I don’t expect anything different south of the Border, except perhaps doing a little to kick start the economy. At the end of the day, a bottomless pit doesn’t exist.

Ben Smith I will stay inside following the rules. I take one walk a day, go shopping once a week for myself and a man of 89 who, in his words, has cabin fever, to stay alive. But I also have a husband who is a key

worker, putting his life on the line every day. We want to be alive when this is over and, however long it takes, will stick to the rules.

Barbara Hill Where’s the bubble she was going to allow? Family are missing each other and that would help.

Julie Mcdonald Looks to me as if Nicola Sturgeon has been getting it right and doing a good job and no, I’m not an SNP voter, but I fully support her.

Willie Watson I agree we need to remain in lockdown to keep ourselves and others safe, but let’s be honest, this lockdown has been a bit of a joke really. Beach busy, ice cream being sold, some cafes still open, Baynes the bakeries open, Costa drive-through, nonessential shops opening. Come on, hardly been a lockdown – and you wonder why some people won’t take the lockdown seriously.
