#BRYANADAMS

The singer is facing criticism over a social media post in which he blamed “bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards” for the Covid-19 pandemic. This has been interpreted as anti-chinese.

@clarke1946 lamented: “Used to love his music. Used to be proud of him. Now? I will never listen to his music again!”

@knewzealander said: “I read his quote and he is not wrong based on the evidence we have to date.”

@Liangji12 replied: “What evidence? Like the ones that supposedly showed Iraq had WMD?”

@t_buckless said: “It is very easy to spread disease this way – the thing is, the people are eating this food because they’re poor and there aren’t any other options. It’s easy to point a finger at a problem but the issues are complex, and if you’re just trying to survive you’ll eat anything.”

@reh123 said: “Nearly a million people have signed the petition to close down the wet markets, Paul Mccartney called them medieval, other musicians have been critical of them; why the hate on BA?”

@afeduptazpayer said: “Bryan Adams was right to grumble about ‘bat eating bastards’, coronavirus/ Covid-19 originated in China, and they have an ongoing campaign to deny it.”

#BELLYMUJINGA

Victoria Station ticket office worker Belly Mujinga died of coronavirus after being spat at while on duty by a man who said he had the virus.

@Sonicscrewup said: “I hope for prosecution. Surely this is murder.”

@Annecope16 said: “Whoever did this needs arresting. Poor woman. Seriously, anyone who purposely spits or coughs at anyone should be charged.”

@jansosphotos said: “How awful and very sad and devastating for the family. I hope the perpetrator gets what he/she deserves.”

@myravenclawlife said: “Personally I hope they find out who spat at her and throw him in jail. May his name be made public so it can be cursed at every opportunity.”

@Jamessims1989 said: “Racial attack by the sounds of it, too.”

@kaygreenwood6 tweeted: “Sadly Victoria Station has always had a serious problem of violent, drunk and mentally ill people harassing both staff and passengers. I have no hope that this will not happen again.”
