TSB adds 80 staff to capital site
TSB has recruited almost 80 of the 100 new staff that will work – flexibly – in its new technology centre in Edinburgh.
The announcement comes after the bank in January said it was creating 100 high-skilled technology focused jobs as it unveiled plans for a new technology hub at its HQ in the centre of the city.
TSB said it has continued this hiring through lockdown with 79 people now recruited and the remaining roles due to be filled over the summer.
The new technology centre will when fully operational house technical specialists, data engineers, analysts, and technology specialists. These roles will “align with a new flexible approach to working that TSB has implemented in response to the Covid-19 pandemic,” the lender said.
Some of the roles were filled ahead of lockdown with the new technology specialists helping set up of the bank’s large-scale remote working operation. At the peak of the crisis, 45 per cent of TSB’S team were supporting customers through home working.
The creation of the centre follows TSB’S pledge to invest £120 million to transform its digital channels.
TSB’S customer banking director Robin Bulloch said: “Launching the TSB technology centre in Edinburgh builds on our long history in Scotland. Customer demand for new services will only continue and this new investment will ensure we are well-placed to meets the needs of our five million customers now and in the future.”
Finance secretary Kate Forbes welcomed the hiring progress by TSB. “We are working towards becoming a world-class digital nation with a highly skilled digital workforce, and the hub’s creation strengthens this aim.”
As part of the creation of the Edinburgh-based technology hub, TSB also announced a new strategic partnership with IT giant IBM, to help the bank become a “truly digital” business.
