Police, firefighters and an ambulance crews arrived swiftly at the scene on Morningside Road following the 2:30pm accident outside the St Columba’s charity shop.

They found the little boy still under the red Kia Picanto and a woman who had also suffered injuries trying to assist him with the aid of passers-by.

A local resident who lives close to the accident scene arrived within seconds.

He said a small red car had mounted the pavement and hit the woman and child.

The shocked 67-year-old said: “I heard it as I was taking the recycling out. It is just around the corner from me.

“When I got there there were people screaming. It was obvious that the car had mounted the pavement and hit pedestrians.

“People were comforting others. They were very upset. It was a horrible thing for anyone to have witnessed.

“Then the emergency services, police and ambulances, arrived. They were there very, very quickly.

“It was a dreadful thing to see and has left me really shaken.”

He added: “I heard it as I was taking the recycling out. It is just around the corner from me.”

Zulfu Vural said the accident occurred next door to his brother’s barbers.

“A friend told me about the crash and I ran up because it happened right outside my brother’s business,” the 42-year-old said.

“I then saw a child on the ground surrounded by paramedics.

“The car had crashed into the charity shop next door to my brother’s barbers.”
