Ross hopes Gogic will add presence and leadership in the Hibs engine room
A productive week for Hibernian in the transfer market was rounded off last night when the Easter Road club completed a deal for the former Hamilton Academical midfielder Alex Gogic.
The 26-year-old, who spent three-and-a-half seasons with Accies, agreed a two-year deal with the Edinburgh club.
Gogic is the club’s third summer signing, following the arrivals of striker Kevin Nisbet from Dunfermline Athletic, and winger Drey Wright, who was most recently with St Johnstone.
Gogic, a defensive midfielder who was notably impressive in matches against Hibs last season, is a former Cyprus Under-21 international who came to Scottish football in February 2017 and quickly adapted to the Premiership.
He declared himself delighted to have joined Hibs, having rejected offers from abroad.
“I’m really happy to have everything sorted and to be a Hibernian player,” he told the club’s website.
“I had opportunities to go and play elsewhere throughout Europe, but I love the game in Scotland and I know already what a big club this is.
“I am here to help make the team better in any way I can and I take pride in being able to win the ball back for my teammates. That’s the side of the game I enjoy the most.
“I’ve missed playing and can’t wait to get going.” Jack Ross, the Hibs head coach, said: “We’re delighted to have Alex on board. He’s a leader and offers us a real presence in midfield. He’ll complement the other players we have in that area of the park.”
Gogic, a former youth player with Olympiacos and Swansea City, will play no part in today’s closed-doors friendly against St Mirren at Hibs’ training centre at East Mains, and will join up with his new team-mates on Monday.
