US firm Gilead Sciences says analysis of their coronavirus drug Remdesivir suggests a 62 per cent cut in Covid-19 mortality risk. It will cost private insurers $520 (£411) for a single vial, hundreds of times its production cost.
@Kongviking tweeted: “Not a peer reviews study. No control group. Way to participate in market rigging.”
@escapedacult reckoned: “Maybe they only tested on people with a better chance of surviving anyhow.”
@_Misscandle_ added: “It reduced deaths in 62 per cent of the people it was tested on. They didn’t say it’s expected to reduce all deaths by 62 per cent. Reading comprehension. Rolling on the floor laughing.” From the UK, @Oldrawgabbit snarled: “Great. I am happy for you, America. Meanwhile, the rest of the world has to wait until September to obtain a supply because Trump bought up every single packet for his country. Thanks.”
On the price, @confuzcious argued: “You cannot expect the drug to cost close to production costs. Drugs cost hundreds of millions to develop providing they get approved.” @Simonwiththetea replied: “Sure... and that’s probably why the Canadians made drugs cost a tiny fraction of what you guys pay... even the new ones...”

Conspiracy theories abounded and police were criticised after the search for actress and model Naya Rivera at Lake Piru in California entered Day Five. She disappeared while swimming in the lake.
@hadid0brien commented: “I’m really sorry to bring this up again, but I find it absurd and disgusting that her fans have to bully the police in every way.”
@gena_vagena74 pointed out: “People don’t realise it can sometimes take days, weeks and even months for bodies to resurface and in some cases they aren’t ever found.”
@dreajack313 contributed: “You do realise how massive that land area is around that lake? They can’t search it all in one day.
@briannaogravel believed: “I don’t think she’s in the lake any more, there’s no way.”
@fourstarscrew replied: “Sadly, I think it’s time to accept she indeed is.”
@Medwaysasha begged: “Please, if you don’t find her by Tuesday don’t give up, the body still needs to be found.”
