Prescott hopes to keep up his fine form at Ayr with two live chances
● Trainer saddles pair on evening card ● Big run expected from Right Action
Leading Newmarket trainer Sir Mark Prescott has a good record at Ayr Racecourse, where he has sent out five winners from his last eight runners including Le Reveur, who triumphed in yesterday’s Luxury Breaks At Western House Hotel Handicap.
And Sir Mark will be hoping to improve on that 63 per cent strike rate when he saddles two runners at the Ayrshire track tonight – Eagle’s Realm in the opening British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes s and Glen Force in the CPMS Maiden Stakes at 7:25pm.
Both horses will be ridden by Luke Morris, who was also in the plate on yesterday’s winner.
Eagle’s Realm was third of six runners in a seven-furlong race at Wolverhampton 12 days ago and should come on for the run but this could be a hot affair with Mark Johnston saddling newcomer Fast Moon and Archie Watson sending Zaisan on the long trip from Lambourn.
Sir Mark’s second runner Glen Force is proving costly to follow having been beaten favourite on his last three outings and he could have to make do with minor honours as the Godolphin runner Secret Moment, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, missed the break on his only run at Chepstow and, with a better start, could be the one to beat.
A horse that could run a big race at a decent price is Geography Teacher from the bang in-form Mike Smith yard who runs in the Weddings At Western House Hotel Handicap at 5.15pm.
This horse should strip fitter after a run at Hamilton at the end of last month and the booking of Joe Fanning looks a significant one.
The night’s feature race is the Scotty Brand Handicap at 5.50pm, where the Richard Fahey-trained Right Action will be expected to run another big race after his win at Thirsk three weeks ago.
Tony Hamilton takes the mount but he could find one too hot for him in this in the shape of Prompting, the mount of Danny Tudhope. This all-weather winner has good form in the book and is having his first run for David O’meara.
Lucinda Russell is better known for her jumps runners but saddles Ballyare who should have a decent chance in the Jordans Electrics Handicap at 6.50pm, when Joe Fanning takes the mount. Recent course winner Mr Wagyu, with Jason Hart aboard for trainer John Quinn, will be expected to go close.
House Deposit may prove an appropriate winner of the Stair Handicap after staying on strongly over this trip in second at Catterick at the start of the month.
Declan Carroll’s gelding has been put up a further 2lb but is still racing well below the rating he had this time last year.
Yesterday’s action at the track saw Paver’s Pride take the opening race and justify the 13-8 favouritism under Graham Lee. It was an impressive win and the six year-old should be able to win again.
The two-year-old Star of Emaraaty shaped well in the EBF Stallions’ Fillies Novice Auction Stakes for trainer Kevin Ryan and jockey Kevin Stott.
This youngster is another for the notebook and a step in trip from seven furlongs to a mile could suit.
Travel Lightly, returned as 5-2 favourite, timed her run to perfection to collar Royal Countess, a winner at the track last week, to land the Jordan Electrics Classifies Stakes for trainer Tim Easterby and jockey David Allan.
There was drama in the last race on the card, the Microtech Odds On For It Support Handicap when Mamdood clipped heels and fell, bringing down both Bollin Neil and Question Of Faith. Thankfully all horses and jockeys involved escaped unhurt.
The eventual winner was Ezanak, a 16-1 chance ridden by Paul Mulrennan for John Wainwright who crossed the line two lengths in front of Jim Goldie’s One Last Hug.
