#CAPTAINTOM

Captain Tom Moore will be heading to Windsor Castle tomorrow to receive the knighthood he was awarded in May. Tom raised more than £30 million for the NHS.

@Yeoldelovespre1 queried: “I’ve never quite understood this. Has the NHS been made into a charity? All these new laws... can’t keep up!”

@alexbuchanan explained: “No, he raised it for NHS charities together, which is a separate umbrella group for lots of local NHS charities.”

@Sleepless8 wondered: “Has he stopped trekking yet? He must need some new shoes by now!”

@richawoodward was unstinting: “Legend.”

@Amalkadog added: “Wonderful man, Tom. And what happened to the £30m raised? For such a significant amount you’d think it would be reported? NHS is not a charity. Don’t let the Tory Government’s funding & management failings be forgotten.”

@fadzcfc chuckled: “The Queen will be happy she’s not the oldest person in the room for a change!”

@Reporterbird added: “Well-deserved! Amazing man meets equally amazing Queen, showing others how it’s done! Respect to them both.”

Emotional @erbingham commented: “That’s me crying on Friday!” @Dutchgeordie joined in: “Definitely the best thing that will happen this year.”

HUAWEI#

China has reacted angrily after the United Kingdom said that Huawei will be banned from its nextgeneration mobile networks.

@cwc94636631 approved: “Good job, UK.”

@liberatehkg wondered: “Actually that’s a very weak response from China. No mention of repercussions? China must impose more counter-sanctions on US and UK.”

@Based_melbourne had no doubts: “Excellent! Even contemplating allowing China access to hi-tech networks represents a huge failure in industrial policy of the nation in question. “

@Kola_toyosi pointed out: “China’s intellectual property theft and unfair trade practices is real, unjustified and worrisome. A pity many developing countries are too ignorant or powerless to see this and address it.”

@greggfr joked: “Dang, we’re angry we can’t spy on you Brits! We had big plans on spying and stealing from you and you ruined it! We’re disappointed! Your friend, Xi.”
