#HIGHWAYCODE
The government is seeking to amend the Highway Code. Pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, and motorcyclists would come before motorised vehicles.
@carltonreid pointed out: “There will no compulsion to wear helmets or hi-vis in proposed new Highway Code, and ‘riding two abreast’ is given stronger approval.”
@davinaswims wondered:”is this a consultation? Open... where?”
@Rjharle approved: “That section about riding two abreast seems to suggest it’s only a good idea when in a large group riding around a bend. That might be less helpful than the current wording.”
@hewitson10 observed: “Is there any chance you could educate bike riders on how to ride on the roads whilst you’re at it? Many good safe riders but there are some shocking cyclists out there on the roads who ride like they have a death wish!”
@psimonk had no doubts: “IMO it appears to be basically saying ‘we don’t want our members or drivers to be inconvenienced by pesky pedestrians’. Toot toot.”
@hblx asked: “So, the AA like the changes and the
RAC don’t? I just want to be clear because my RAC membership is up for renewal shortly (not that I’ve driven my car since March).
#DIXONOFDOCKGREEN
Weather girl Carol Kirkwood sparked fond memories for many by asking what was the first programme they remember watching on a Saturday evening when they were a child, mentioning Dixon of Dock Green and Starsky and Hutch.
@Speedydesmond had no doubts: “Dixon of Dock Green. Sergeant Dixon always solved the crime and always had wise words.”
@b1968_sara reminisced: “Not Dixon of Dock Green, certainly; yes to the others... I also remember Kojak (Who loves ya baby!), Cannon, Mcleod and The Rockford Files... loved them all.”
@STEPHENASKIPPEN pondered: “Dixon of Dock Green. I was in my forties, the ... Ha. Howard’s Way, I think it was on Sundays. A lifestyle series, wonderful escapism. I bought the DVDS a while back.”
@alansco30862700 commented: “We need a few more Sgt Dixons in the Met today. He would soon sort out the crime wave in London with a few sharp clips round the ear.”
