Renowned economists scheduled to address virtual Tedxglasgow event
A trio of prestigious economists will speak at a virtual event taking place this Thursday that aims to discuss the future of the economy postcovid-19.
Tedxglasgow, which says it aims to provide a platform to present top ideas from Scotland to a global audience, is hosting the session, which will examine how we can create an economy that’s “fit for the future and the new normal”.
Those lined up include Dundonian political scientist and Brown University professor of international economics Mark Blyth.
He has authored Angrynomics and Austerity: The History of a Dangerous Idea, which explores the consequences of economic austerity.
Joining him are Linda Yueh, fellow in economics at St Edmund Hall, Oxford University, TV and radio presenter, and author of The Great Economists: How Their Ideas Can Help Us Today; and Andrew Wilson, economist, former politician and founding partner of strategic communications agency Charlotte Street Partners.
The hour-long discussion from 6pm will take place on Zoom and will be moderated by broadcaster Clare English.
Pauline Houston, co-curator at Tedxglasgow, said: “We’re really excited to have secured some big players in the world of economics for our latest Conversation Worth Having. This is going to be a fascinating discussion that will raise questions on how the economy can recover in the best possible way and what opportunities should be taken to reset our global economy as we face a ‘new normal’.
“I’m looking forward to welcominganotherengagedaudience that will be able to take a lot of insight from this discussion. Hopefully, it will spark further conversation and ideas – which is what Tedxglasgow is all about.”
