Sherrock is to be part of the PDC’S World Series

- By BRUCE MCHENRY

Fallon Sherrock will take part in the 2020 World Series Finals in Austria next month, the Professional Darts Corporation has announced.

The 26-year-old made history last year when she became the first female to win a match at the World Championship.

Her exploits in reaching the third round at Alexandra Palace saw her given a spot at the World Series of Darts events this year, but the coronavirus pandemic reshaped the PDC’S calendar.

However, Sherrock will be present in Salzburg for the 24-member tournament on 18-20 September after she was one of 12 players to be invited to take part.

The other participants are made up of eight seeded players, including world No 1 Michael Van Gerwen and world champion Peter Wright, and four qualifiers from the PDC’S 128 tour card holders.

Thepdclaterannounced the launch of a Women’s Series in October, when players have the opportunity to qualify for the World Championship.

Four events will take place in Cannock on 17-18 October, which will have £20,000 prize money in total, and replace the two qualifying tournaments which have been staged over the last two years.

Two places are up for grabs at Alexandra Palace, like last year when Sherrock and women’s world champion Mikuru Suzuki competed.

There will also be a Grand Slam of Darts qualifier on 16 October, offering one place at the tournament in Wolverhampton in November.

Chief executive Matthew Porter told the PDC’S official website: “Women’s darts at the top level has never enjoyed as high a profile and this is an important development.”
