Older and wiser, Johnson returns to Scotland to sign for Hamilton

Formerdund­eeunitedwi­nger Justin Johnson claims he has returned to Scotland a more determined player after completing his move to Hamilton.

The Dutchman has joined Accies from Cypriot side Othellos Athienou following a trial period. The 23-year-old made six appearance­s in two years at Tannadice and suffered relegation with United in 2016. Johnson, pictured, said: “Since arriving at Hamilton, I’ve felt welcome at this club and now everything is finally sorted I’m very excited and can’t wait to get started.

“I’m back in Scotland now and I’m more determined and more mature both on and off the pitch.”

● Dundee have moved to strengthen their attack for the new season by signing former St Mirren striker Danny Mullen.

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Championsh­ip club.

Dundee tried to sign Mullen on deadline day in January but could not get the deal completed in time.

“It’s was really close but it just didn’t work out,” explained Mullen, who added: “It’s a long time coming.

I can’t wait to get started and meet all the boys.”

Mullen was a youth player with Aberdeen but made his first-team breakthrou­gh with Livingston for whom he made over 170 competitiv­e first-team appearance­s. He moved to St Mirren in December 2017, initially on loan, and helped them win the Championsh­ip.

● Harrogate Town will start life in the English Football League next season at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium.

The Yorkshire club have secured promotion to the Football League for the first time in their 106-year history and have begun work on upgrading their CNG Stadium to comply with EFL rules.

Harrogateb­eganrippin­gup their artificial 3G playing surface yesterday in preparatio­n for a new grass pitch. The work will not be completed until October and the new Sky Bet League Two season is scheduled to start on 12 September. Harrogate said in a statement: “We are now able to confirm an agreement with Doncaster Rovers to use their ground for our EFL home games while our new grass pitch is laid. Built in 2006, the Keepmoat Stadium can hold around 15,000 supporters and is located within 50milesoft­hecngstadi­um.”
