#ABERDEEN

Lockdown measures are being reimposed in the Aberdeen area after a spike in coronavirus cases, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

@callumstweets tweeted: “I don’t know how anybody can be surprised that Aberdeen is back in lockdown. And to be fair to Aberdeen, it could have happened anywhere. Social distancing has well and truly gone out the window for the majority and now look. This is what happens when you don’t listen!”

@DJMACDSTV added: “No household meetings allowed, five-mile limit on travel outside city for social, entertainment and leisure. To be reviewed in seven days.”

Cynical @degsyroberts chuckled: “Nicola Sturgeon trying to work out how to blame the English for the cluster of Covid cases in Aberdeen.”

@Sayers33 joined in: “Aberdeen, Aberdeen, cannae keep a quarantine!”

@patrickharvie reminded everyone: “It’s distressing to see restrictions reimposed in Aberdeen, but we must do what it takes to eliminate the virus. It’s also a reminder for us all if we want life to get back to normal.” @martincoxgts disagreed: “Now we see the power we’ve given politicians... closing down cities at will, with zero resistance and all of us following like sheep! Over just a few cases... something is not right here.”

#WHSMITH

WH Smith is looking to cut up to 1,500 jobs as the high street retailer said that its recovery from the coronavirus lockdown remained slow. It saw revenue fall 57 per cent in July.

@michelleeb commented: “I do wonder if the drop of custom at WH Smith’s is less to do with Covid and more to do with reducing the magazine and book and stationery stock to stock massively overpriced chocolate bars and bottles of water no-one ever wants.”

@_sianfh agreed: “WH Smith in trouble doesn’t surprise me considering they want £10 plus your firstborn in exchange for a ham & cheese sandwich meal deal.”

@Michael_heaver pointed out: “In past 24 hours alone: WH Smith to slash up to 1,500 jobs; Dixons Carphone to axe 800 jobs; 1,100 jobs at risk at Pizza Express.”

@Zoompad was sad: “Their art section is superb and their watercolour paints are one of my favourite brands.”
