Distillery donates sanitiser to school

The owners of a Scottish isle distillery have donated hand sanitiser to all pupils at Portree – the only high school on Skye.

Brothers Alistair and Thomas Wilson, who both attended the high school, have donated their Isle of Skye hand sanitiser to all 580 pupils and staff.

Speaking of the donation, Mr Wilson said: “Thomas received an email from Portree High School advising on the measures for the children returning as his two sons are pupils there. All children are to carry hand sanitiser with them and we thought it would be a nice gesture to donate a 100ml bottle of our Isle of Skye distillers hand sanitiser to the 580 pupils and staff.

“We thought this would give the pupils, parents and staff some reassurance for a safe return to school during this unusual time.”

The distillers were one of the first to adapt their production to hand sanitiser when it became clear there was a shortage at the start of lockdown. They donated the sanitiser to the island’s NHS, police, fire and ambulance service, care homes and those working in the public sector.

Isle of Skye Distillers was launched in 2016 by the brothers, who gave up their day jobs to open the island’s first gin distillery.

The distillery produces Misty Isle gin alongside a vodka, which was launched in late 2018.

The brothers also separately launched a gin school two years ago.
