Scotland’s coronavirus infection rate could be increasing after a number of small clusters were detected. Nicola Sturgeon said the The R number in Scotland could have been be as high as 1.3 last week.

@Abrightcoldday1 said “If it truly is increasing, then that’s natural. A lockdown was only meant to buy time to have thorough response measures in place. It was never a vaccine. Plunging us back into full lockdown would be inhumane. In other words, so be it. We can’t dance this dance forever.”

@Oliviag37717638 posted: “While I am all for children going to school and meeting friends, the R rate is too high and it could mean we have another lockdown. I hope we won’t but this is what could happen if we don’t watch out.”

@wilfowl25 commented: “Emphasis on ‘could’. This is the usual scaremongering from St Nicola when she doesn’t have a clue what she’s talking about. But we’re in a ‘pandemic’ despite almost no deaths and few hospitalisations even if they could all be attributed with 100 per cent accuracy to coronavirus.”

@Bobcarmichael16 wondered: “So why are we sending children to school. Whether they catch it or spread it, it’s just going to get worse. I appreciate schools have to remain open for lots of reasons. However, give parents the choice. We need to reduce class sizes, to allow distancing.”

@Annegrier8 said: “So the ‘Chief Mammy’ cannot control the virus. This is not a good look for her political grandstanding everyday at her party political broadcast.”

@Tomscot03734039 posted: “The R rate is no longer as important as it was at the height of the pandemic. There are now so few cases in Scotland (estimated around 250 people infectious) even a small number of cases/small outbreak can cause the R rate to jump up dramatically.”

#THECROWN

Oscar-nominated Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip in the 1990s in Netfilx’s royal drama The Crown.

@Alrhodes92 said: “That’s what they think, they’ll be scrabbling around looking for someone when Prince Phillip hits 167 years old.”

@Chrisheadleand posted: “The Crown will end before Philip.”

@Danielmeally added: “You could just cut a paste footage of Father Jack.”
