Stewart in, Washington out at Hearts

- By BARRY ANDERSON

Hearts have signed the Livingston goalkeeper Ross Stewart on loan after Colin Doyle moved to Kilmarnock.

Manager Robbie Neilson wants three keepers in his first-team squad and Stewart will compete with first-choice Craig Gordon and back-up Zdenek Zlamal.

The experienced Doyle moved to Rugby Park until January and Stewart’s loan deal runs for the same length of time as he replaces the Irishman in the Hearts squad.

Stewart, 25, is Livingston’s third-choice goalkeeper and has played only 12 times for the West Lothian club since arriving from St Mirren in 2018.

He spent time on loan at Queen of the South last season and previously played for Albion Rovers and Motherwell.

Conor Washington has left Hearts, with Charlton Athletic confirmingthestriker’ssigning yesterday. The Northern Ireland internationalist has signed a two-year deal with the English League One side after one season at Tynecastle.

Hearts will receive an undisclosed fee for the 28-year-old who featured 22 times, scoring four goals last season, including one in a 3-1 Edinburgh derby win over Hibs.

Hearts coach Liam Fox is leaving the club as part of a backroom restructure, with Andy Kirk offered a role with the women’s team.

Lee Mcculloch and Gordon Forrest arrived at Tynecastle from Dundee United yesterday and will assist Neilson.
