Forrest keen to score his third goal against Rangers but wants to make it a win this time

- By MOIRA GORDON

Alan Forrest has scored against Rangers in the past. He just hasn’t beaten them.

He would dearly love to change that this weekend and believes that he and his Livingston colleagues have shown they have the character to handle the challenge.

They went into Wednesday night’s encounter with

Motherwell on the back of two defeats and twice went behind before earning a 2-2 draw against Stephen Robinson’s men.

In the end they were unfortunate not to head home to West Lothian with all three points but there was enough in their performance to offer hope ahead of this weekend’s home tussle with league leaders Rangers.

That view is shared by Forrest, who joined this summer after signing a pre-contract from Ayr United. His goal secured his side the draw and having won their first point and bagged his first goal for the club, Forrest is determined to add to both even if the Ibrox side are the next team to come calling.

“We’re looking to build on that result,” he said. “The boys have been working hard, we have a good squad and, hopefully, we can take this performance into our next game.”

Rangers were one of the few teams who turned up at the Tony Macaroni Arena last term and escaped with their pride intact and all three points. Forrest expects another tough challenge but is confident that he and his colleagues have the character and the game plan to upset the odds this time.

“Every game is hard in this division and I think we’ve been handed a particularly tough start to the season but we’re the home side on Sunday and, although it will be another difficult match, we’re looking forward to it.

“I scored against Rangers a couple of times when I was with Ayr United but I was in the losing side in those games. Hopefully, I can do that again this weekend – only this time I’d like to come away with the right result.

“I’m enjoying the step up to the Premiership. The rest of the boys have been excellent: they’ve really helped me settle in and the gaffer has given me the opportunity to play and I’m learning more each day. Getting that first goal was important and now I’m looking to add a few more goals and assists.”
