Fresh positive case linked to fishing boat from Orkney

- By DOUGLAS BARRIE

A new positive coronavirus case has been confirmed in the cluster linked to an Orkney fishing boat, taking the total to six.

The incident management team met yesterday to discuss progress with contact tracing taking place across NHS Highland, NHS Grampian and NHS Orkney.

The meeting comes after NHS Orkney chief executive Michael Dickson said on Thursday a number of people had developed symptoms and then travelled to their homes across Orkney and to mainland Scotland. He said at the time the cluster involved a minimum of nine people.

Louise Wilson, NHS Orkney director of public health, said: “We ask the Orkney community to continue following the physical distancing guidelines.

“Anyone who develops symptoms should self-isolate and contact NHS Orkney for a test.

“This is no time to be complacent but we can prevent the risk of the virus spreading further if we all follow the FACTS guidance.”

It comes as a restaurant near Glasgow has been forced to close after being associated with a positive case.

Staff identified as close contacts at the Ca Va Brasserie in Giffnock have been told to selfisolate for 14 days.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Dr Gillian Penrice chaired a problem assessment group yesterday with East Renfrewshire Council.

She said: “All relevant public health measures are in place and myself and our public health team are working with the restaurant to manage and monitor the situation.

“We would ask customers who have been in the restaurant from mid-afternoon onwards on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday to be aware of the symptoms of a fever, persistent cough or loss of taste or smell.

“If concerned they need to self-isolate immediately.”

A post on the brasserie’s Facebook page said: “We have taken the decision today to close Ca Va for a period of time that will be governed by the Public Health Protection Unit.”
