Wildfires rage near Los Angeles as heatwave looks set to continue

-

People stand next to flames rising from the Ranch fire in the San Gabriel mountains above Azusa, 25 miles east of Los Angeles. Dry vegetation fuelled three wildfires amid warnings that the risk of further blazes erupting was high as temperatures spike and humidity levels drop during a statewide heatwave. California’s heatwave was expected to last throughout the weekend, bringing temperatures above 100F and extreme fire danger to many parts of the state. At least three buildings burned in the Lake Hughes area north of LA, but authorities said they believed more had been damaged or destroyed.
