Border patrol

Four in ten Scots believe that English tourists should not currently be allowed to travel into Scotland, a Yougov poll has found.

Why does this have to be political. A lot of people think that it is not advisable under the current circumstances to allow thousands of English and foreign tourists to travel to remote parts of Scotland. Scotland has done well with most sticking to the lockdown rules and driving down the number of cases/ deaths. Why spoil it with an influx of tourists?

Robert Milne How about because a lot of livelihoods depend on tourists?

Lillian Wells Because we are in a recession and the economy needs all the help it can get? With no tourists from overseas then we should be welcoming tourists from all over the UK

with open arms.

Adam Scott Catch 22. More tourists have the potential to trigger lockdown two.

Craig Hollywood Sturgeon relished saying she might have to close the border. It’s not surprising that it was picked up by her more “intellectually challenged” followers.

Peter Lewis If the UK had shut it’s borders at the beginning of the outbreak thousands of lives would have been saved. Would you have complained then about closed borders?

Mike Taylor I’d like to think most people would have liked to have seen a cross border movement limitation during the recent flare-ups - but only as a means to control the spread of the virus.

Darren Ward Was over in Edinburgh last week. There seemed to be plenty of English tourists there and the people of

Edinburgh who profit from them seemed only to ready to accept and appreciate the money they were spending in their various establishments .

Sue Caughey It’s a matter of public health. If sanctions have to be imposed then we should accept them. This is too important.

Jane Mccann Don’t paint those of us in Scotland who are genuinely concerned about the spread of the virus by tourists from whatever country or region they have come from as anti-english. It is not. It is common sense. Travel should still be limited, and people should holiday at home. We have a beautiful country which we neglect to explore, and there are many hidden, local gems to be discovered. Spend locally, save the economy, and stop the virus spreading.

Margaret Hodder England is at present one of the most important virus countries so it is normal that we (Scots) do not wish to have them bringing the virus back into Scotland. We have almost beaten this horrible infection but as New Zealand has shown you cannot drop your guard on this one.

Lindsay Bihel Scotland relies on tourists. Without them, there would be mass unemployment, services would be reduced etc etc. Stop them coming and they will not return. Why would they?
