No enforcement
I sincerely hope that the Borders Council has more success with their plan to slash the speed limit to 20mph ( Scotsman, 28 August) than East Lothian Council.
The introduction of this measure in East Lothian has had little or no effect, mainly due to a complete lack of enforcement.
If, as reported, one of the aims is to encourage more cycling, then apart from motorists, action needs to be taken against speeding cyclists who pose a bigger danger by constantly exceeding the speed limit.
If lack of enforcement is due to undermanning etc of the police or funding for speed cameras and the like, I suggest that these expenses would be more t han covered by t he income derived from the fines which could be imposed.
