ARTIST # 07 RHIANNON REBECCA SALISBURY
In April this year, as a result of the Covid- 19 pandemic, the 2020 edition of the Edinburgh Art Festival had to be cancelled. However, as Edinburgh and its vibrant visual art scene begin to emerge from lockdown we are delighted to present this new weekly showcase, produced alongside Edinburgh Art Festival, featuring work by artists with digital and/ or physical exhibitions at the city’s galleries.
Rhiannon Rebecca Salisbury recently graduated from the Turps Banana Painting Program, having completed an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art. Her first solo exhibition, Accessorise With A Tiger, took place at Arusha Gallery in Edinburgh in 2018, with her second opening at Darbyshire Ltd in London in March 2019. Recent achievements include winning the 2019 Delphian Open Call which culminated in a solo show with the gallery last September 2019.
Opening at Arusha Gallery on Thursday, Ancient Deities is her curatorial debut. Working in collaboration with the gallery, she has invited 18 artists to invoke and create an ancient deity, seeking to reawaken a host of awe- inspiring and mystical entities and bringing them back to the forefront of people’s consciousness. The show will bring together a melting pot of artistic responses, attempting to reimagine the world by reawakening the past, responding to the present and reconceptualising the future. The chosen deity from each artist as reflected in new artworks will be presented in a new group exhibition at Arusha Gallery, and online via a virtual viewing room at arushagallery. com, from 10 September until 18 October.
