Dons expect to have 300 fans in Pittodrie for match with Killie

● Cormack hopes to get green light for two test events, starting this week

Aberdeen are today hoping to announce that 300 of their supporters will be allowed into Pittodrie for Saturday’s Scottish Premiership match against Kilmarnock.

D ons chairman Dave C or mack, pictured below, has revealed that the club have plans in place for two test events to welcome football fans back to games for the first time since the corona virus pandemic shut grounds up and down the country–but the move still requires approval from the Scottish government.

“I just spoke with Neil Doncaster at the SPFL and we’re hopeful of getting the green light on Monday to host two test events: next Saturday against Kilmarnock with 300 fans, and the following Saturday against Motherwell with 750 fans,” Cormack said in a video message on Twitter.

“I mentioned a couple of months ago that we were hopeful we would start to get limited crowds back in starting in September and hopefully with the success of these events we will be able to rapidly move forward and get all our season-ticket holders in.”

The R angers versus Dundee United and Ross County versus Celtic matches taking place this weekend had been earmarked to host test events for the return of supporters but those plans appear to have been scuppered after new C ovid -19 restrictions were placed on Glasgow.

Cormack seems confident that Aberdeen have now jumped to the head of the queue to play host to a test event and expects to get the nod from politicians today.

“A big thank you to all the clubs, the SPFL and the SFA for all the hard work over the last couple of months to get us to where we are to day,” added the chairman.

C or mack also revealed that Aberdeen earned spe - cial praise from a Uefa dele - gate for their hosting of last month’s Europa League qualifying tie against NSI Runavik and he hopes that could help pave the way for an announcement today.

“We had the Europa League game against the Fa roe se team and that had an inspection prior to it,” he said. “The Uefainspec tor not only said we had gone above and beyond but that what we had done was outstanding. Hopefully that bodes well for us at Aberdeen getting back sooner rather than later to being allowed all of our season-ticket holders into Pittodrie.”
