Furlough fears

-

The Labour Party and industry leaders have called on the government to extend the furlough scheme beyond October or risk a second wave of job losses across the UK.

Basic income as proposed in Scotland and Germany would be the way ahead. Germany has extended its furlough.

Marie Mccairns

This is a public health emergency on a worldwide scale. They find billions for wars, financial crashes and other emergencies. Germany is extending its furlough for at least another year and we should definitely do the same here. Or is money more important than our people?

Andrew Hunter

It’s time to cut the wheat from the chaff. At this point we are just pouring money into giving people false hope and putting money into businesses that won’t survive. Be cruel to be kind. Let people go and let them get whatever benefits they are due. Put businesses out of their misery. Sometimes you are doing people a favour.

Heather Macdonald I wish you the best of luck, whoever the chaff may be. Noted that Germany is extending the scheme for two reasons – the workforce will be in place to respond quickly to the eventual upturn and their government actually gives a damn.

David Lumsden

They spent more money saving the banks, so you can see who the government want to look after.

Euan Robertson

Sadly it would just be delaying the inevitable if they did extend it.

Alistair Mcquat It’s time to open everything up. Get back to work or do without.

John Monaghan Its too late for furlough to help businesses. Businesses have no money left now, so they need to make money from their employees and not pay them to sit in the house.
