- By MARTIN DEMPSTER

Scotland’s trio of representatives in this week’s 120th US Open–Bob Mac in ty re, ConnorSy me and Sandy Scott–are being reunited at Winged Foot in the second men’s major of the year.

They were team-mates for the last time as amateurs when Scotland successfully defended the European Team Championship in 2016, joining forces with Grant Forrest, Craig Howie and Jamie Savage at Chantilly in France.

Now Macint yre (24), Syme (25) and Scott (22) are all making their US Open debut at the same time, having secured spots in the US GA event through separate exemption categories.

MacIntyre, pictured, got in through the professional world rankings and Scott off the equivalent amateur standings, while Syme qualified through the European Tour’s mini-order of m erit on the recent UK Swing.

“I know a lot about wee Sandy–or big Sandy now ,” said Macintyre of Nairn man Scott .“I played amateur golf with Sandy, and was his partner when we won the Euro - pean Team Championship in France. Me and him played as partners on the last day.

“His game has changed a lot since he went to the US (where he attends Texas Tech). He is hitting the ball a lot further now, although I have not played with him in a few years. “He is from the Highlands – I call him a teuchter. He is a great player, and he will do well. He’s going to turn pro at some point. I don’ t know when, but I’m sure he’s going to have a long career ahead of him.”

Along with Macint yre and Syme,F or rest is also now playing on the European Tour, where Challenge Tour card holder Howie recorded a top-five finish in the recent UK Championship at The Belfry.
