Delaney targets ‘ three finals’ as Davies and Halfpenny return for Scarlets

- By ANDREW BALDOCK

Wales scrum- half Gareth Davies has recovered from injury and will start for Scarlets today as they face Toulon in the quarter- finals of the European Challenge Cup.

Head coach Glenn Delaney, who also gives debuts to centre Johnny Williams and No 8 Sione Kalamafoni, said: “It is a final for us. If you win three finals in a row ( in the knockout phase), you win a trophy.

“We are that far away from achieving the objective we all set out upon 12 to 13 months ago. It would be lovely to finish it off the right way.

“When e v e r y o u g e t t h e opportunity to play for a trophy you have got to be ver y respectful and take it deadly serious, which is exactly what our boys have been doing.”

Wales full- back Leigh Halfpenny also returns to face his former club.

The winners will book a s e mi - f i n a l a g a i n s t e i t h e r Leicester Tigers or Castres, who meet at Welford Road tomorrow.

The English side are currently 11th in the Premiership with only six wins from 20 league matches, but head coach Steve Borthwick is looking forward the chance of gaining some success in Europe.

“Castres are a ver y good side,” he said. “They have a well- balanced squad with a big pack, pace out wide and half- backs who manage a game well, pushing for field position. “This is a challenge we are all looking forward to.”

Bristol ran in seven tries last night as they defeated Dragons 56- 17 in the first of the Challenge Cup quarter- finals. Pat Lam’s side will face Edinburgh or Bordeaux Begles in the semi- finals.
