Is it time to give up the fight and tell tourists to come and see the windfarms?

-

“Welcome to Rose hall& Al tass, Home of the T urbine Villages.” I am genuinely concerned that this could well become the future strapline that many of us who are involved in tourism will be using in our publicity material in the not-too-distant future.

We may well have to face the fact that we have to completely rethink how to market the area over the coming years. Forget the water falls, river valleys and hills. Has the time come when we have to concentrate on enticing the fisherman who travel from far and wide by telling them that we that we are going to rename the pools so that each prime fishing spot can now be associated with an industrial windfarm installation they can view whilst fishing. Perhaps have the ghillies kitted out in baseball caps and waders that are sponsored by the windfarm developers through community benefits.

We might consider creating new interpretation boards at the beauty spots that show that from this spot there are more turbines to view than from any other view point in the county. The Struie Hill Millionaires View might be just the place!

Should we produce a leaflet highlighting the different t ypes of turbine, be proud of the fact that our communit y can boast more makes of turbine at var ying heights than any other region?

Sadly, this could well become a reality in the future. Frankly it is nothing short of disgraceful that the Highland Council and S cottish government allow wind farm developers to continue to be able to put in applications in an area that will ultimately be saturated in this part of the Highlands.

It seems that small rural communities such as Rosehall and Altass are being abandoned by those who represent us, and have to defend ourselves time and again against large, rich develop - ers, with our limited financial resources and a population worn down by constant battles in a continuous effort to stop the industrialisation our landscape.

Enough is enough, please Highland Council, do not allow our beautiful rural location to be constantly overrun with turbine applications and become a view of turbines with hills, and its residents exhausted from trying to fight them. ASHLEY SMITH Rosehall, By Lairg
