Scots edged out by Finns in first defeat since 2019 World Cup

Scotland have fallen four points behind Finland a 1-0 defeat in European Championsh­ip qualifying against the Group E leaders in Helsinki.

It was Scotland' s first defeat since last year' s World Cup.

Shelley Kerr's team, who have a game in hand, visit Portugal late next month before welcoming Finland to Edinburgh on 1 December.

The final two qualifiers against Cyprus (away) and Portugal (home) take place in February.

Scotland striker Erin Cu th bert had as hot saved after Kirst y Smith appeared to bet ripped in the box, and Martha Thomas fired wide.

But Eveliina Summanen put the F inns, coached by former Scotland boss Anna Signeul, in front.

N at ali aKuikka' s header was cleared off the line by Lizzie Arnot and Sum man en buried the rebound. It was the first goal Scotland have conceded in four Group E games.

Jane Ross headed Emma Mitchell's corner against the hosts' crossbar in added time, but the Finns held on.
