New Year hope No more heroes?

-

One million Scots will receive a Covid-19 vaccine by the end of January, Health Secretary Jeane Freeman has said.

It's an ambitious target, I hope it is met.

Jock Tamson I wouldn't put much faith in anything Freelunch has to say or organise. After all, the vaccine hasn't even been approved yet. I suspect this grand announcement has more to do with stoking a grievance further down the line.

Old Man of Hoy

Copy this announcement, then let’s see what actually happens. Then see how quickly Westminster gets blamed for failure to roll out according to schedule

No coronavirus vaccines have yet been approved by the regulators – no coronavirus vaccines are yet available for use – and the SNP'S Health Secretary is promising that 1 million Scots will be vaccinated by January 2021. There is no basis in reality for the SNP'S promise – it's nationalist hot air.

Ah’m no bluffin If they do do it, it will be thanks to the political and financial clout of the UK government, which I am sure Ms Freeman will gratefully acknowledge.

I Mac Good luck finding a million people in Scotland willing to take it.

Mike Hibberd

I don’t understand why so many people are suddenly afraid of this particular vaccine but have had so many others in their life.

Chris Redfern

Because they’re covidiots, they will infect everyone else, they only care about themselves. Now there's a vaccine I couldn't care less what they do.

Stuart Annan

Others are tried and tested, we don't know the longterm effects of this jab. They say “receive” as though it’s some sort of favour. I’d rather take my chances, thanks.

Jason Hankey You all sound like those idiots in the US who are anti-vaccine for run of the mill diseases that we had previously obliterated with the sensible use of vaccines. This virus will never decline if too many are sceptical... once you lose someone you hold dear to Covid-19, then I’m sure many of you will change your minds. It's incomprehensible to me, but then, who knew so many people would decide the pandemic was a hoax?

Barbara Suttar

I trust those who are unwilling to take the vaccination will have the courage of their conviction to refuse NHS treatment if they fall victim to the virus.

Bill Salmond

I won't get it till next year, by then millions will have had it, so any side effects deaths etc we will know about them!

Irene Mathieson

People seem to think that the scientific community would be willing to permanently compromise their credibility by rushing a vaccine through without rigorously testing it. Surely, when so many people are sceptical of science, it makes most sense for the vaccine developers to have done their due diligence but that kind of logic escapes a lot of people.

Fraser Hume Slowly moving in the right direction.

Barry Kirk

To compulsory mass vaccination, it appears!

Angelo Greig

Got to love the people moaning about the Government’s handling of all this and now we have a vaccine and they won’t take it! The public doing its bit to make lockdown last forever!

Malky Forbes

A sign at Edinburgh Castle that describes British soldiers who fought in the Siege of Lucknow in India in the 19th century as “heroes” will be replaced with one that is “accurate and balanced”.

Absolutely ridiculous! I hope Historic Environment

Scotland tells the families of those soldiers – sorry, your guys weren't heroes after all

Brianna Reisbeck

Thank goodness! It's been keeping me awake at night.

James Selway

Don’t put the blame and the shame on the soldiers. They were servants who followed orders and performed their duties. They WERE heroes! Put the blame on the Lords, whose greed and ego sought unlimited wealth and power.

Thomas Kelly

Wake me up from this nightmare. Leave the past where it belongs.

Aileen Mcallister

Pathetic.
