University sets out entreprene­urial plans

The University of Strathclyd­e is to offer every student and staff member entreprene­urship training under plans that also include the rollout of a £ 7.5 million investment fund.

The Strathclyd­e Inspire programme will see the developmen­t of an entreprene­urship hub in the heart of Glasgow City Innovation District and the introducti­on of senior enterprise fellows from business and industry to encourage and support the next generation of entreprene­urs.

The plans were revealed as the university launched a fiveyear entreprene­urship strateg y t o 2025 during Global Entreprene­urship Week.

University principal Sir Jim Mcdonald said: “Strathclyd­e is home to many extraordin­ar y people whose innovation and ambition makes a positive impact on the world around them, whether on the economy, society or the environmen­t.

“O u r n e w S t r a t h c l y d e I nspire programme builds on our strong track record for entreprene­urship education, research and practice.

" It will enable us to grow our community of i nnov ation leaders and further empowe r our s t af f, s t udents and alumni, whether they want to set up or grow a business, br i ng new t hi nki ng t o a n existing one or enhance the i mpact and r each of t heir research.

“Our strategy represents a catalyst for positive change, bringing economic benefit and social impact to communitie­s. ”

A dedicated hub will become the focal point of Strathclyd­e Inspire on campus, in a new building being planned close to the university’s £ 89 million Technology and Innovation Centre.
