Staff block for hotel up for sale at £1.3 million

- By SCOTT REID

A former staff accommodation building for a landmark East Lothian hotel has gone on the market at more than £1.3 million.

Property firm Allied Surveyors Scotland have been appointed to sell the former Macdonald Marine Hotel’s staff building in the seaside resort of North Berwick.

The firm has been retained by Chicagobased AJ Capital Partners which purchased the hotel and spa from Macdonald Hotels last February.

Now the staff accommodation building, which consists of 18 bedrooms over four storeys, is surplus to requirements and has been placed on the market at offers over about £1.35m.

The 9,108 sq ft property occupies a half-acre site in the town’s Dirleton Avenue and is less than one mile from the town centre. It was previously known as the Golf Hotel until about 2006.

Allied Surveyors’ director of commercial agency (east), Iain Mercer, said: “This is a prime development opportunity on the main road leading into one of Scotland’s most soughtafter coastal towns.

“We expect high levels of demand from residential developers in particular, but other uses may also be viable.”

AJ Capital Partners is currently undertaking a major refurbishment of the marine hotel and spa and plans to reopen the iconic seaside establishment later this year.

Once completed, the hotel will debut with about 90 bedrooms, two food and beverage concepts, expansive meeting and event space and an indoor-outdoor spa and fitness centre.

Allied Surveyors Scotland currently has 32 offices in Scotland.
