Richards set for Bullion raid on Musselburgh stayers’ hurdle

- By GORDON BROWN

The Musselburgh jumps season ends in style today with a cracking £140,000 card which kicks off the Go North Weekend Festival.

Centrepiece of the behindclosed-doors meeting are four finals of the Northern Lights Hurdle Series with the action continuing at Kelso on Saturday and Carlisle on Sunday.

Bullion Boss, trained by Nicky Richards, bids to add to his New Year’s Day course and distance strike in the ITM Northern Lights Stayers’ Hurdle Series Final. Greystokebased Richards said: “It’s fantastic money for this grade of horses so you’ve got to roll the dice. He’s gone up a few pounds for his win but he’s given the Multiple Sclerosis Borders Racing Club a lot of fun so far. Most of his runs this season have been at Musselburgh and he gets on well with Ryan Day so hopefully he’ll go close again.”

Nick Alexander-trained Arnica, who chased home Bullion Boss on January 1st, is among those in opposition along with Graeme Mcpherson’s impressive November course and distance scorer Ratfacemcdougall.

Keith Dalgleish is triplehanded in the ITM Northern

Lights Juvenile Hurdle Series Final with Feldspar, Breguet Boy and Le Magnifique.

Breguet Boy has been a regular at the East Lothian venue this term as it has been the scene for all of his four starts over hurdles which have yielded two wins, a second and a third.

Lucinda Russell’s eighttime runner-up Gemologist

attempts for her first win on her 35th race in the ITM Northern Lights Mares’ Hurdle Series Final.

At Newbury, Storm Goddess can claim compensation for her Cheltenham Festival mishap in the BV Handicap Hurdle at Newbury.

Charlielongsdon'smarewas quietly fancied to run a big race in last week's ultra-competitive Pertemps Network Final.

She got no further than the second flight, however, unseating Tom Buckley.

Storm Goddess is clearly none the worse for that experience, because she is redirected here quickly.

Buckley can again claim 5lb, and there is plenty of form in the book from last autumn which indicates he could be in business this time. Storm Goddess was receiving more than two stones when she just got the better of the classy Younevercall in a Kempton Pertemps qualifier over three furlongs shorter than this in November. That nonetheless demonstrated she is well capable of winning off her current rating.
