#COVIDTESTS

Lorry drivers, cabin crew, prison escorts and seasonal workers entering the country from outside the UK will need to take a Covid-19 test within 48 hours of arrival, the government has said. Those remaining in the UK for longer than two days will be required to take a further test every three days.

@Sheltie_dreams asked: “Why haven't they been tested before now?”

@KEVINFOXALL4 said: “They should be tested at the French ports before they board a ferry. And the French should pay for it, not us as normal.”

@Ealaearendel replied: “And next week you'd be the first to cry that your supermarket shelves are depleted, I wager.”

@beerandanvils posted: Late news – by around 11 or 12 months, but welcome.”

@scotteforsyth commented: “A year into lockdown and we get this – what a shambles of a government.”

#BARCELONA

Around 5,000 people spent Saturday night at a gig in Barcelona after receiving negative results in same-day Covid testing. Fans took a test earlier in the day and did not have to keep physically apart but they still wore masks.

@Eriksenslott said: “And how many false negatives will be at the gig? In my opinion, still a bad idea to go to a gig before most of the population is vaccinated. We owe that to the people who are at risk.”

@wewereimmortal posted: “Wearing masks at outdoors festival makes total sense.”

@lxkeooh remarked: “If I had to wear a mask at a festival then I wouldn’t go.”

#LIBERTYSTEEL

The government has rejected a request for £170m in financial support for Liberty Steel.

@Turfline said: If you have a business model that works and will repay debt fair enough, then a loan can be viable. But bailing out any business needs to show some worthy profit or break even, especially £170m. Otherwise it becomes a bottomless pit of no return of taxpayers’ money.”

@Boobsgains posted: ”Who needs a steel industry anyway?”

@Karlbuzz16 commented: “They should have drunk in Matt Hancock’s pub.”

@Lestodd10 added: The firm seems to have failed several times. Show the orders first.”
