Runaway Spiders climb seven points clear at the summit after quick start seals points at Brechin

- By CRAIG STEWART

Two goals inside the opening 15 minutes helped runaway leaders Queen’s Park cruise to a 2-0 win away to basement side Brechin City.

Jai Quitongo burst down the wing and fired in a cross that young Rangers loanee Harris O’connor could only bundle into his own net for the first goal on four minutes.

Louis Longridge headed in the second as the Spiders extended their lead to seven points with the hosts having Bobby Barr sent off late on for leading with an elbow.

Spiders manager Ray Mckinnon said: “The application from our players was excellent against a side fighting for their lives.”

Edinburgh City moved up to second spot with a 3-1 victory over Stenhousemuir that made it three wins from three under recently appointed boss Gary Naysmith. Raffaele De Vita scored in each half before Mark Mcguigan halved the deficit, however Danny Handling made sure of the three points late on with the visiting Creag Little dismissed in injury time.

Elgin City shared the points with Stirling Albion in a 1-1 draw at Borough Briggs. Stirling took the lead when Andy Ryan slotted home after 62 minutes before Darryl Mchardy equalised ten minutes later.

Stranraer continued their play-off push as they came from behind to draw 1-1 away to Cowdenbeath. Gavin Morrison’s first goal for the Blue Brazil on 14 minutes was cancelled out by Ayrton Sonkur’s second-half header.

Sam Jamieson’s 93rd-minute equaliser helped Albion Rovers snatch a last-gasp draw at home to Annan. The Galabankies took the lead in the 70th minute through Iain Anderson’s overhead kick but Jamieson pounced on a goalkeeping mistake right at the death to steal a point for Brian Reid’s side.
