Fighting talk

An Edinburgh police officer was taken to hospital with facial injuries after trying to break up a fight at the Meadows park.

Millions of us have been under the same restrictions and it’s taking its toll on all of us. It’s a minority of selfish little [redacted] that are responsible and deserve the punishment of the law. Parents should bring their children up with more respect for the society they live in, simple as that.

Iain Brown People are becoming like wild animals that have been locked in cages and finally have freedom.

Coll Ferguson

I think the army needs to be brought in to patrol streets. Everyone is going crazy because of this lockdown!

Sally Lawson

It’s not everyone. There are over half a million people in Edinburgh. This is a handful of kids who can’t handle a few drinks.

Lisa Cairns

Just give the police a free hand with hooligans.

Brian Shepherd

The police were seriously outnumbered, they would not have stood a chance.

Biddy Mccuaig

A couple of platoons, full riot gear, no comebacks from the government from how they clear the park – watch the little rats run for cover.

Mack Mclachlin

Perhaps they should close that area as it has become quiet problematic. Also, the restrictions are not the issue as many of us have respected the guidelines given by governmental agencies.

Walter Jiménez

The police and council have been notified endlessly of increasing crowds gathering on the meadows and Bruntsfield links. But the approach is reactive and not proactive. By the time they respond fighting has usually

started. I’m not asking for the Meadows to become off limits, just used with respect for others and the area... ie take rubbish home, no fighting and don’t use the parks as a toilet.

Linda Bremner Water Cannons, that would move them, other countries don’t put up with it.

Bob Baird

The slapped wrist approach obviously not working.

Jim Strachan

Yes we all want some freedom and it was a nice day, weather wise, but please tidy up after yourselves. I feel sorry for others in the park that do behave and follow the rules, and for the police

who have to risk their health dealing with these kind of situations.

Linda Lopez Disgusting behaviour, couldn’t care less attitude as usual.

Sam Scobie

Disgusting behaviour.

Deborah Cogan

Why are they allowing crowds to turn parks into what looks like a landfill? Round them up and teach them to clear up after themselves and start using litter fines.

Dianne Davidsoon Humanity is in reverse and it's sad.

Scott Ellis Cows behave better after being let out in the fields after the winter.

Rennie’s vision

Scottish Lib Dems leader Willie Rennie claimed Nicola Sturgeon had “lost control of the nationalist movement” and the bitter divides between the First Minister and her predecessor Alex Salmond could see his party win round SNP voters keen to put the Covid recovery ahead of independence.

Oh Willie, I know you want it to be true but she's going to win big.

Liz Rae Neither the SNP nor Nicola Sturgeon ever had "control" of the Independence movement – that right belongs to the people of Scotland!

Alistair Mcintosh If nothing else, whatever your political beliefs the next Parliament should be entertaining. When Alex Salmond takes his seat in the debating chamber at Holyrood, First Ministers Questions could be lively.

Anna Mosspaul Nicola Sturgeon never had control of the grassroots Yes movement, Nicola Sturgeon is the Leader of the SNP, its political spearhead, but the Yes movement is far greater than the SNP. I’m glad Unionists are starting to realise this.

David Richardson Nicola Sturgeon is the leader who is announcing a plan for recovery that is full of ideas. It’s the other parties that are pretty bogged down in bad Snp/block independence mode.

Yvonne Mackay It’s a lways negative doom and gloom from Willie Rennie.

May Sinclair What are the Lib Dem’s policies for Scotland Willie?
