Economy first

Fewer than one in five Scots believe independence is the most important election issue

It’s clear the flag wavers care about nothing else. Thank goodness they are a minority!

Phil Welsh Patriots who want freedom couldn't care less about economics. We always go on about how beautiful Scotland is as a country. If taxes rise and you can't pay your mortgage, buy a tent and live on the Scottish countryside and embrace your inner Scotsman.

Boaby Wallace

The irony here is that once achieved, the powers and sovereignty would then be offered to the EU.

Richard Brown

The central paradox of current Scottish politics is people voting for a party that stands for independence if they don't want independence. It’s like voting for a socialist party and not wanting wealth re-distribution or a conservative party and not wanting policies for wealth creation. The SNP will always have a high priority for independence - it’s their reason for existing.

Peter Lewis

Our entire future, physical, social and economic, is tied to our right to selfdetermination and prospects as an independent, full member of the global community. Time to ditch the institutional misrepresentation.

Dougie Blackie

The UK is a union that helps its members through problems they wouldn’t have if they were not in the UK.

Olaf Jacobsen I support and campaign for independence, but if asked this question I would not put independence top. But the reality is my top priorities need independence to

actually happen.

Ag Petrie

Economy and health would both be in a far more favourable place, post independence.

Stephen Livingstone

For a vision of a country that is a land of milk and honey (but no unicorns) look across the Irish sea to the last country to leave the UK.

Alan Sneddon

A better economy and health care will be a natural progression with independence.

Craig Hollywood

How does Scotland improve its economy, its employment prospects, welfare situation and education system? How

do we ensure our return to the EU having been dragged out against our will? The single factor that addresses all these challenges is Scottish independence. Independence should not be treated as a single issue like education or welfare.

Stewart Dredge Have all the 65 countries that have gained independence regretted it ? No many have flourished Bit like your mother telling you you can't leave home because she manages your life. Have some pride for goodness sake …

Lorraine Sharon P Kelly Try getting the schools up to speed, the NHS caught back up with the mounting backlog and the economy back on track, support business and generate jobs. Maybe then we can think about going it alone.

Rick Glass

A better economy and a healthier society will come from self-government. Independence is a means to an end not an end in itself.

Malcolm Greig

Top priorities need independence to get full control of Scotland’s money so Scotland isn't forced to pay for projects that England want, and to stop England raising debt for Scotland because England can't afford its own stuff.

Daz Ostler The Mccrone report wasn't buried for 30 years and classified as secret for no reason. Modern Scots are now looking across the North Sea to Norway at their $1 trillion oil fund and wondering why we have food banks in Aberdeen.

Independence is the answer.

William Brodie

Well don't vote SNP if independence is not your top priority. A coalition of the other parties will be far better to get the economy, jobs, health and education back to what it was 10 or so more years ago. Makes sense.

Peter John Pendlebury

The SNP are the only party that look out for Scotland.

Ron Mcpherson

Look what the government in England has done to our economy! Of course independence is the most important issue.

Ni Holmes

Anyone who even considers the possibility of independence being a key issue has taken leave of their senses. Nearly seven years after the decision was made, this poisonous proposition should be off the table.

Alastair Browne

The one in five who are obsessed are the Tories.
