Second-favourite Almazhar Garde storms home in Kelso feature race

- By GORDON BROWN

Almazhar Garde, sent off at 9-4 second favourite, made it two from two at Kelso when storming home in the feature race at the track yesterday.

The Charlie Longsdontrained top-weight led all the way to win by 11 lengths in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap Chase.

Jockey Gavin Sheehan said: “Apart from the second, he did everything brilliantly. I managed to get a breather into him and he’s stayed on strongly.”

Lucinda Russell and Derek Fox teamed to win the Join Racingtv Live Now Handicap Chase with Mannochmore who made all to score by lengths.

Russell said: “We weren’t sure if he would stay and this was just his second start over fences.”

Russell and Fox completed a 43-1 double when Bollingerandkrug took the Manners Le Gracon d’dor Handicap Hurdle.

The Visit Racingtv.com Buccleuch Cup went to Rules debutant Rio Des Echanault, ridden by 32-year-old Nick Orpwood and trained by Jessica Mckie, daughter of former National Point To Point Champion Jockey Ian Mckie.

Meanwhile, Swinging Eddie can get punters off to a flying start in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap at Wolverhampton today.

Grant Tuer sends his course specialist back to Dunstall Park as Swinging Eddie moves up to just beyond a mile again, having previously fared well at an extended nine furlongs when a decent third here last summer, before returning from a break for two successful

visits in three attempts over seven. The five-year-old is up 5lb for his victory at the end of last month, but that was a performance with a bit of substance for this grade.

Most compelling of all is the current wellbeing of Tuer's string, having recorded a treble at Newcastle last week and a 100 per cent success rate on that card. Swinging Eddie looks well capable of keeping the good run going.

Tuer has so far eked just one win out of Kaafy, who could well double that tally in the Free Tips Daily On attheraces. com Handicap.

Kaafy has a patchy overall record, but was back in good heart again with an encouraging second here. It was only deep in the final furlong that Kaafy was outgunned and he has a feasible opportunity to go one better.

Pleasant Man catches the eye on the flat at Windsor, in the Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Novice Stakes.

He scored comfortably as favourite on debut at Haydock in September, before heading for the Group Two Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket three weeks later. He was last of five throughout there, but beaten little more than four lengths and therefore sets a lofty standard as he seeks to justify his Dante and Derby entries – with the move up from a mile to 10 furlongs highly likely to help him.
