Raith blow two-goal lead against strugglers to hand title to Hearts

-

Raith Rovers blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Arbroath, with the end result helping Hearts clinch the Championship title.

Dan Armstrong got his fifth and sixth goals of the season, but Jack Hamilton and Ricky Little both struck inside the closing 20 minutes to rescue a point that moved the Red Lichties eight points clear of bottom side Alloa. Rovers boss John Mcglynn said: “If we could not win, then we were going to make sure we did not lose and the point could prove valuable.”

Morton’s 1-1 draw at Dundee was the other piece of the puzzle in the Jambos’ title win as Lee Ashcroft scored an 88th minute equaliser. Greenock winger Aidan Nesbitt put Gus Mcpherson’s side ahead with 12 minutes left, before Ashcroft levelled. The Dark Blues thought they had grabbed a late winner when Declan Mcdaid fired high past Aidan Mcadams from a free kick, but referee Alan Newlands blew for a foul in the build-up.

Dunfermline kept within touching distance of the play-offs despite being held to a 1-1 draw at Ayr. Pars striker Declan Mcmanus gave the visitors an early lead when he nodded in Ewan Henderson’s cross but Michael Miller pulled the Honest Men level midway through the first half after sliding in at the back post to bury Mark Mckenzie’s cross.

Inverness extended their unbeaten run to eight games as they hit back to draw 1-1 at Queen of the South. Substitute Aidan Fitzpatrick gave the hosts the lead after a fine solo effort. However, former Queensloaneenikolaytodorov levelled as Neil Mccann’s side continued their quest for a top-four finish.
