Sighting of shark halts surfing competition
A shark temporarily halted competition in the World Surf League event at Sydney’s Narrabeen Beach yesterday.
The second heat of the event was in progress when the shark was sighted and surfers were called from the water.
Competition was delayed for 15 minutes, until organisers were sure the shark had left the area.
Three-time world champion Mick Fanning of Australia, who fought off a great white shark in South Africa in 2015, was at Narrabeen Beach when the sighting happened.
