Megginson double as Cove victory over leaders Falkirk draws them level at the top

-

Cove Rangers moved level on points with leaders Falkirk following their 2-0 home win over the Bairns, with Mitch Megginson bagging a double as Paul Hartley got one over his former side.

Megginson’s first came after 11 minutes when Ryan Strachan flicked on Fraser Fyvie’s corner and the striker sent an acrobatic overhead kick flying in via the underside of the bar.

Fyvie’s set pieces continued to cause the Bairns back line problems and Aidan Keena was on hand to head Scott Ross’ effort off the line.

Falkirk’s best chance of the game fell to Conor Sammon, but the striker’s header crashed off the crossbar.

Fyvie’s delivery proved pivotal just three minutes into the second half when Megginson got on the end of another corner to stab past Robbie Mutch and register his 11th goal of the season.

East Fife need just a point to secure a top-half place after coming from behind to beat Peterhead 2-1. Hamish Ritchie put the Blue Toon ahead on 24 minutes and they had strong claims for a penalty shortly afterwards when Chris Higgins handled but referee Lloyd Wilson dismissed their protests. However the tide turned on 68 minutes when Peterhead defender Andy Mcdonald saw red as he chopped down striker Ryan Wallace as he advanced on goal.

The Fifers made their man advantage count as Danny Denholm pulled his side level and Scott Agnew grabbed the winner with 12 minutes left, with team-mate Craig Watson dismissed late on.
